Living Tank The Ultralisk is a very intersting unit that has alot of potential. Unfortunately, in the end it just doesn't match up to the cost-effectiveness of
Hydras and Mutas. The Ultra is very powerful, can take a ton of damage, looks cool, inspires fear, and is a great way to spend a lot of money in a short time.
Unfortunately, the Ultralisk has two downfalls. One, it is expensive, in build time, material cost and supply cost.
A whopping 8 supply could almost always be better spent elsewhere. Two, it is really high on the tech tree, so it's not available until your opponents have even more powerful units. You also have to get a Hive which takes lots of time and money.
Cost-effectiveness dictates that 8 Hydras are a better choice over 1 Ultralisk, because 8 Hydras will defeat an Ultralisk in a fight.
Additionally, ultras still suffer from the same problems that effect Zerglings and Hydralisks. Siege Tank or Reaver fire will rip apart Ultras as fast as they do Zerglings and Hydras, per resource unit anyway. If you decide to go Ultralisks, take the following into consideration.
Ultra-Notes Get the two upgrades at the Ultralisk Cavern When attacking, remember that they are bulky and 12 of them can't all fit through one choke point at once
Ultras are especially good at forming a single-file line, so be wary of letting yours do this. Remember to cover your Ultras with anti-air units. Don't forget that the 'supply limit exceeded'
message means that you still have more room to morph other units when morphing ultralisks. 193/200 supply leaves no room for another Ultra but room for 7 Hydras.
Kamikaze! One of the more fun, unique, and annoying units, the Scourge has little practical use. Most air units can either take more than 2 hits (which is 1 larva)
or just eats them up as fast as they fly in there.
Scourges are simply wasted on Battlecruisers. They cost a ton of gas, so mass production is difficult and can leave a player at a great disadvantage. The upgrades at the Spire are worthless to the Scourge. Despite all this, they do have a strength, 2 to be exact. They are perfect hunters of Carriers and Overlords. Carrier Interceptors are almost useless in tracking a suicidal Scourge, and Overlords have no defense. Additionally, scourges can function as cheap aerial scouts, though their sight range leaves something to be desired.
